Product Introduction
Dextran Gel G-25 is a bead-shaped gel containing numerous hydroxyl groups, which allows it to swell easily in water and electrolyte solutions. G-type dextran gels have various degrees of cross-linking, resulting in different swelling capacities and fractionation ranges. The swelling degree of dextran gels is generally unaffected by the presence of salts and detergents. Dextran Gel G-25 is available in different particle sizes. Superfine grades are used for applications requiring very high resolution, such as column chromatography and thin-layer chromatography. Coarse and medium grades are suitable for preparative chromatography processes, providing high flow rates at lower pressures, and the coarse grade can also be used for batch processes.
Dextran gels are insoluble in all solvents (unless chemically degraded). They are stable in water, salt solutions, organic solvents, alkaline, and weak acidic solutions. In strong acids, the glycosidic bonds in the gel framework are hydrolyzed. Prolonged exposure to oxidizing agents can damage the gel, so these should be avoided. Dextran gels do not melt and can be sterilized at neutral pH in moist conditions or autoclaved at 120°C for 30 minutes without affecting their chromatographic properties. When dry, heating above 120°C will cause caramelization. The mechanical strength of dextran gels depends on the degree of cross-linking.
