Product Description
Dextran Gel G-50 is a bead-shaped gel containing a large number of hydroxyl groups, which swells easily in water and electrolyte solutions. The G-type dextran gels have varying degrees of crosslinking, resulting in differences in their swelling capacity and fractionation range. Dextran Gel G-50 is available in different particle sizes: superfine particles for high-resolution column and thin-layer chromatography, while coarse and medium grades are suitable for preparative chromatography, allowing high flow rates at lower pressures. Coarse grade can also be used for batch processes. Dextran gels are insoluble in all solvents (unless chemically degraded) and are stable in water, salt solutions, organic solvents, bases, and weak acids. In strong acids, the sugar ether bonds in the gel skeleton are hydrolyzed. Prolonged exposure to oxidants should be avoided, as it will damage the gel. Dextran gels do not melt and can be sterilized in the wet state at neutral pH or autoclaved at 120°C for 30 minutes without affecting chromatographic properties. When dry, heating above 120°C will initiate caramelization. The mechanical strength of dextran gels depends on the degree of crosslinking.
